Wilfried and Paula Sterckx run a brasserie together. Wilfried enjoys the contact with his regulars, while Paula is already dreaming of their approaching retirement. Chris is their eldest son and married to Lydia. He works as a lawyer in his father-in-law's firm. Becca is the eldest daughter and single mother of Dora. Nicky Sterckx is the youngest child in the family. She studies at university and leads a carefree life. At little Dora's birthday party, the entire family fills out a lottery ticket.
